  • Astralpool ECO Tester for Measuring Free Chlorine (Bromine) and pH

OTO and Phenol solution (drops) for measuring free chlorine and pH in a pool water tester.

    Chlorine content test

    1. Fill the yellow test tube of the tester with the analyzed pool water up to the mark. The sample should be taken approximately 40 cm below the surface and not near the waterline.
    2. Add 4 drops of OTO solution (O-tolidine) to the test tube. Close the tube with the cap and shake to obtain a homogeneous solution.
    3. Compare the color of the solution with the color scale on the tester. The corresponding shade determines the amount of free chlorine in mg/liter. The maximum value is 1–1.5 mg/liter (according to Decree No. 135/2004 Coll., 0.3–1 mg/liter depending on the pool water temperature).

    pH test

    1. Fill the red test tube of the tester with the analyzed pool water up to the mark. The sample should be taken approximately 40 cm below the surface and not near the waterline.
    2. Add 4 drops of PHENOL RED solution to the test tube. Close the tube with the cap and shake to obtain a homogeneous solution.
    3. Compare the color of the solution with the color scale on the tester. The corresponding shade determines the pH value. The pH value of water expresses the degree of acidity or alkalinity of a chemical substance. The ideal value for pools is 7.2–7.6. A pH higher than 7.6 leads to the formation of various mineral cloudiness and the buildup of limescale and other deposits. A pH lower than 7.2 causes corrosion of metal surfaces. The pH value affects the solubility and effectiveness of the disinfectants used.
