The Bilbao 500 sand filter is suitable for above-ground and in-ground pools up to 60 m³. The Bilbao filtration unit features a split sand tank. The split tank allows for faster and easier sand replacement than filters with a top-mounted valve. In addition, when replacing the sand media, there is no risk of accidental damage to the filter’s internal piping. Bilbao filter tanks are manufactured by plastic injection molding, which ensures excellent wall strength. Filtration

Filtration is part of the overall treatment of pool water. This means that the filtration unit alone, without proper chemical water treatment, cannot ensure the required water parameters. Likewise, chemical water treatment alone is not sufficient without filtration.

Filtration Principle

Water is drawn by the pump from the bottom of the pool through the pool bottom drain (1) and from the surface through the skimmers /collectors/ (2), via the valve (3) into the filter (5), where it is cleaned. It is then returned to the pool through the recirculation nozzles (6). The nozzles are located on the opposite side from where the bottom drain and skimmers are installed. The filter itself contains a sand media that traps insoluble impurities present in the water. After a certain period of filtration, the sand becomes clogged and therefore difficult for water to pass through. It is therefore necessary to backwash the sand. Backwashing or rinsing is carried out by directing the water into the filter in the opposite direction to the filtration process.
